New to this!

Hello,
As said i am new to this (the forum) and in all honesty im only just getting to grips with HTML anyway.
I am using the htmlgoodies.com site to learn the basics, and it seems to be a good site, i was just wandering a couple of things.
1. Are there other site’s as good or better for newby’s at coding?
2. Im not sure of the proper name for this so i might have just missed it on htmlgoodies, but what is the name and how do you create the table on the left hand side of the screen? If this is not HTML but XML or other then i dont need to know how to do it, as i will jump that hurdle when i come to it!

Thanks for your help in advance guys/gals!
