Copy/paste email function.

Hello everyone,

I was curious to know if anyone could give me some tips. I need to create a form with a text box that contains a pre-written letter. The user would click a button to automatically copy the contents of the letter, then click another link or button to open their personal email client and paste the contents of the letter into the email. My client does not wish to have the letter sent directly from their server via a traditional web form, I guess they are worried about being “blacklisted” as spammers or something to that effect. They prefer to have users copy this pre-written letter and email it themselves to local state representatives. I have no prior experience with this so any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated. Thank you!

Jared

@Sterling_IsfineSep 11.2009 — What if either they don't have or prefer not to use the account set-up on the machine they're using?

You could just collect the user's email address, then submit it to a server script that emails the letter to them for forwarding.

@JnovaauthorSep 11.2009 — Im not sure, I know they want to give users the option of either sending this pre-written letter, or writing their own personal message and delivering both by personal email.

To give you an idea, this is the letter I am talking about.

They want a drop down menu with a list of email addresses to choose from. Using the drop down menu they find their local state representative.

Then they want the user to select one of 2 options. Either send the pre-written letter from the text box, or send their own personal message both via personal email to their local state senator.

If the user does decide to send the pre-written letter, they want a button in place that automatically copies the text to the users clipboard, and automatically opens the users email client.

Or better yet, if possible, they would like a button that will automatically open the users email client AND automatically pastes the text from the letter into the email. This way it kind of dummy proofs the whole process and the user doesnt have to copy and paste anything themselves. Im not sure if ever seen that one before.

It would probably be a lot easier just to set up a regular form that sends the email through their server, but for whatever reason they dont want that. I dont know all the details, but they said something about being "blacklisted".

If anyone has any suggestions I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks again.
