I’ve never done anything other than adding ASP/PHP to Word generated stuff.

I know I shouldn’t be using Word. So I finally bought Dreamweaver and want to learn how to use that. To get a sense of what’s going on with divs and absolute placement, I saved a webpage off the net, and then opened it inside Dreamweaver. I’m able to see how everything’s laid out and what’s going on with the CSS and AP tabs in the right margin of the Design view window. Text boxes (and the text in them) and image placeholders are sized in the design staging area.

But no images show up. Yet I can open up a page saved off the net into Explorer and the images are all there on the page.

My question is: Where are the images stored on my computer? Where can Dreamweaver find them?

Thanks for any help.

@scragarSep 01.2009 — If you just want to see how the code works why not use firefox and the firebug plugin?

I'm sorry that I can't help with your problem, I don't use dreamweaver myself(I do mostly server side stuff in a team and I prefer to write my code by hand).

open up that saved website in a web browser and right click the picture and go to info, see where it is saved. if it isn't saved locally then thats most likely why you aren't able to view the pictures in dreamweaver.

If thats the case you can right click save as all the pictures and change the source(in dreamweaver) and then you should be fine to view the pictures!

And if for some reason they are local and arent showing up just save them anyway, stick them in the same folder as the .html (or w/e extension it is) and again change the source of the image in dreamweaver to that folder and you should be set!
It is too true that MS Word is the worst, but Dreamweaver isn't much better. And it turns out that the best, Amaya, is free. Never spend a dime of software for the web!

Just downloaded Amaya - must say I'm impressed so far. HOWEVER it has taken over as browser for Visual Web developer Express - which is all very well - but it won't run the pages - though initial render is fine. Haven't yet figured out how to get VWD to call up either FF or IE in preference to Amaya - so may have to uninstall that. Pity.
