Changing the name of site

I have a site that I want to change the name off. Because the original name is used in various places, I think it would be best to just forward the original domain name to the site and point the new name at the site’s name servers. My question is would this has a detrimental effect on Google search rankings?

Thanks,

@bluestartechAug 09.2009 — DNS servers manage where a domain points to, CNAME records point one domain to another seamlessly, you should consult your hosting provider for information on setting this up
