run and application from HTML page

Hi all,

I’m creating a demonstrative CD ROM. I would like to create a presentation page in HTML in which it is possible see various details and picture of the application.

The problem is that the user should be able to run the application directly from this page.

Using HTML and linking to the application executable, first of all, it asks if download or run that is not very beautiful but acceptable. The main problem is that does not run correctly because the application is not executed from the original directory and cannot access the others data files.

Is there any way to run an application from a web page? I can manage to use something else than HTML if I need.

@PeOfEoNov 14.2003 — HTML is very limited because trying to access a users machine from the internet or trying to run an application on the users machine from a site would be a huge security risk. Your site is obviosuly not on the internet but it still is html which was desigined for the internet and has limits for security. It might be possible to use a third party program, an applet etc to launch a program but I am not sure about that and it would be a round about way of doing things. It is possible for a website to get data from a data base and write files and data bases but this requires the use of a server side technology, and if you want to use this the server needs to have the proper components etc installed and most personal computers will not be able to do this so that really is not an option. You might need to think of an alternative option I am afraid.
