Help getting site indexed higher by Google

Hi,

I built a removals site, a simple basic static HTML 4 page site. I submitted it to google a month ago and if you search for the name it comes up fine.

However, if you search for “removals” in the area of the country where is is based, it is not appearing in the search. I have added meta data description and keywords, relating to the type of bussines services and locations.

Can anyone suggest some good ways of at least getting it listed on the first page of Google if people do a generic search for this type of company in the area specifed?

@6StringGeekJul 27.2009 — You shouldn't have to submit anything to google. Do you have 'removals' as part of one of your headings (h1) and perhaps in the title? Do you have a bunch of relevant content and a decent amount of key word usage in the content?

@6StringGeekJul 27.2009 — You might add some more info in your meta description tag pertaining to your business. You can usually squeeze in about 25 words. I think you are currently using 4. Use this space to give the user a strong idea of what you do, your location etc.

for example:

removal company, removals,

is "removal company" here classed as one or two keywords because it is separated by commas. Just curious because I also read adding to many keywords can cause Google to think it is spam,

@6StringGeekJul 27.2009 — I have read so many opinions about keywords. Some people say google doesn't use them at all anymore, but that other search engines do. I still use them, but i make sure they tie to my headings and don't use words or phrases that aren't in my content.
