The Best Way to Optimize My Searchability?

Hi guys,

Getting pressure from the boss to make our website more searchable when people are looking for “philadelphia sign shops.” Which is fine, except that I have covered every meta tag and picture tag I could. Is there any other way to make a site more searchable? or search friendly (short of toatal html redesign)?

I’m more of a designer then back-end person, so any suggestions or links to helpful articles would be appreciated. Thanks!

And for ref (if you need it) here is the website: http://brandsimaging.com, let me know if you see anything in my tags that might throw off an engine, but keep in mind that I am still going through the gallery pages to make sure all of those are relevant too. Oi, this is time consuming. Bless you programmer types.

@infinityspiralJun 23.2009 — First thing and not to be argumentative, but do you know that those terms are the ones driving conversions on your site? Traffic is good, conversions are better. Maybe the ones actually buying into your services are leaning towards "philadelphia sign shops" and maybe they're not. Either way the first step in optimizing your site for search is knowing your audience and what they search for to get to your site. Guessing won't cut it, you need a solid traffic report. Not saying you haven't done this, just throwing out a warning there that if you're gonna get in the car and drive somewhere it helps to know where you're going.

Anyway on the site I noticed there isn't much of a hierarchy of tags (h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6). Sure the meta data goes into the equation a little bit, but for the most part a lack of tag hierarchy means that the search engine is going to interpret your site as mostly being about: home, portfolio, clients, blog, crew, information, contact because those are the H1 tags. If you went up to someone on the street and just said those words would they understand what you do? They might think you're some sort of artist from portfolio, but other that that you're not giving them much to go on. This is absolutely critical in SEO.

What should be in H1? Vehicle wraps, custom wallpaper, signs, graphics, branding, supergraphics, philadelphia, vinyl, printing, commercial printing, large-scale ?

Also there's lots of images that don't have alt tags ? fix those. Your portfolio gallery is perfect opportunity to inject descriptive keywords. Even you if you include the type of project in an h2 tag you'll be generating word weight in the types of projects you do which lifts you up.
