passing php arguement in javascript event

Can anyone tell me how do I accomplish this

<input type=’button’ onclick=”‘somefunction(” + <?PHP echo “passval”; ?> + “)'” />

I am trying to pass a php arguement using javascript. But is not working. Need help pleasee…

@bcmannJun 12.2009 — Can you show another example? Because when I'm looking at what you have, it looks like "passval" is a js variable. Obviously if that was the case, you'd just do

onclick="somefunction(passval)"

and if it's a PHP variable, then you'd do this:

onclick ="somefunction('<?php echo $passval; ?>');"

The way I usually pass variables to PHP is either through the URL where applicable, or through cookies.
