processing one character at a time

Hi

I need to separate the html tags img from a text with html embeded

Inside a foreach i can preg_split the message :

$arraychars = preg_split(“//”,$message);

to separate the chars but how can i detect the <img tag until hos closing character and separate into another variable for further processing
