IE8 spoils CSS & DHTML code

Hi Guys,
I have some CSS code I downloaded from one of the free sites that give out free snippets, the code gives a nice mouse over effect on images and works well or did?

I installed IE8 and now notice the only way the code works id if I hit the compatability button on the IE8 browser.

If I dont hit the compatability button the image pops up but it doesnt show propely and there are overlaps under other elements no matter what I do…

Is this an IE8 bug or am i going to have to take out this code?
I have had little to do with IE8 and would prefer not to have it but you cant stand still huh?

All other browsers seem fine its just this IE8

Depending on how your javascript works, that could be the problem.
