html form info to database without server

I am currently working on a job for a smaller company that does not have the resources yet to purchase a server to host from or to save data to some type of database. Basically, one of the pages contains a form and a collection of text boxes and pull down menus, each with an html-tag defined id (such as “first_name”, etc). What I was thinking as a solution to the server-void was to transfer each field-id into an xml file that gets uploaded once the submit event is executed. This xml file will then get parsed and a batch file on my client’s desktop will automatically save each form into an excel database.

What I’m wondering is if this seems like a plausible idea (I haven’t had much success with any method so far) and if you would have any tips/hints in executing this.

Thanks so much for your time and help,

@JPnycMay 23.2009 — Gets uploaded to what? If there's no server, where is this file being hosted in the first place?

@code_monkey2authorMay 23.2009 — It's being hosted on a free-host service and the database is simply an Excel file on the company computer. I guess the more specific question to ask is whether or not the user will be able to submit the form information directly to an xml file within the same directory. What do you think about the plausibility of this?
