IE8 Compatability View

I just got into web development and built a simple survey tool for my business. The tool’s up and running, developed and tested on IE8 with Dreamweaver CS3.

When I load the webpage, IE8 show’s the Compatability View icon in the toolbar. My understanding is that button only comes up if it thinks your webpage is “broken”, having been developed for an older brower. Is that correct? Do I have to specifically tell IE8 that my page is for IE8?

Thanks

I have to laugh though when microsoft used the words "standards compliant" in their blog.
