date function

Now i got the date entered by the user from a page
[B]<?
$entered_date=$_POST[‘entered_date’];
?>[/B]

for example if the user wrote[B] 2008-12-25[/B]

all i need is to convert this format to

[B]thursday 25, of December 2008[/B]
i need to make it using php
how i can do it?
