Need some help with my background colors not showing up

I am trying to have a background color that has a number id of #EEEAE9; My css validates and my site is xhtml strict. Does xhtml strict just not play nice with non-web standard colors?

@FangDec 10.2008 — Provided your monitor can show more than 256 colors there should be no problem.

Showing your code may help with a solution.

I have attached both the css sheet and the html file. I had to rename the extension as I can't upload .css or .html files so please rename the files from .txt to .css and .html respectively.

The id that is the problem one is "contentgradient"

P.s. I just opened the page on my windows laptop using firefox and it works fine but doesn't work in firefox on my mac.?
