Button that empties cache

here’s a crazy thought, how about a button, or link, that cleans out your cache when you click it. is it possible??? i figured javascript would be the tool, if it’s even possible. i’ve seen some crazy things done w/ javascript in the past, so this might even already be out there.

the designer and i @ the firm we work at thought of this because of flash files. everytime we had to make changes to a flash file, we usually had clients call us back complaining that their changes have not been done, at which point we would advice them to empty their cache, and voila!!!

so the designer thought it’d be cool to include a link that empties your cache for you. that would be a very powerful tool to include in our proofs.

anyway, if anyones got a thought, idea, or knows of something of the sort, please let me know. i’d really appreciate it. thx in advance.

@Declan1991Dec 09.2008 — No, JavaScript cannot do that. If you add a random part to the url however, it should cause it to load a new Flash file each time. Alternatively, you'll have to add a no-cache header with the Flash file, but I don't know how to do that. Other than that, you could provide instructions on how to empty it, it's not that complicated in most browsers.
