help with php login script

When do you need to use the stripslashes() function when comparing $_post date to mysql data?
I built a login script using the stripslashes, it did not work. When i removed this function it worked.
I guess I don’t really understand what it is for and when to use it

@SyCoNov 24.2008 — "$_post date" or "$_POST data"? The devil is in the details.

When debugging it can be useful to echo the contents of the variables to the screen so you can see what is going on. It might become more clear then.

Here's the manual page entry for stripslashes(). Read all the notes and the user comments as well and you should have a better understanding.
