Need a new design application

Currently I have Dreamweaver 8 with the Studio suite to manage the few websites I look after. I will not be reinstalling it when I get a new Laptop and anyway I work from several PCs. I am looking for a new open source application that can do FTP and work from a locally stored copy of a website e.g. edit, synchronise files and then upload them. Only thing is I do not need a WYSIWYG presentation like Dreamweaver.

I will be using Gimp, Inkscape for graphical work. I also may need to work under Linux.

Any suggestions that might meet most of my requirements?
