Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I think it might make an interesting conversation.
In my case, I’ve gotten pretty good at building CSS sites with some scripting, but besides the standard graphic programs, CSS and javascript, I don’t really have any other tools in my belt.
Can you make a “career” off of being a CSS expert? Or does one need to know a whole host of languages and techniques (php, mysql, java, etc.?) in order to have “a career”. In my case I’m trying to figure out the next step – I can design a bit, and I’m good with the CSS…but it seems, according to craigslist anyway, that you need a million and one skills in order to go the development route. There seems to be a third route, called “UI design” which seems to be a third kind of option between a designer and developer.
Do you guys think of yourselves as designers? Developers? What kind of skill sets do you have / are you moving towards? etc etc.
