page not scrolling with link

I thought ‘even I can do this on my own’, having found a well documented script which is supposed to scroll a page sleekly to an anchor when clicking a link I thought I had done everything right but the page just jumps.

@friggateauthorOct 25.2008 — Also one of the features of the script is its ability to avoid the #button in the URL, something I must be doing wrong as I keep getting it. Here is the original features page:
