Stuck with PHP & MYSQL. Any Suggestions?

Im in the middle of desiging a dynamic website which is going well.

However, one of the additions to this website is having a “web database application” for all the products i have to offer.

Im learning PHP & MYSQL from a book (lol) & is becoming a drag and quite rather boring.

Is there any helpful tutorials or an easy way around creating a “web database application”?
Maybe ASP.NET is better than PHP & MYSQL?

Please advise further.

Thanks in advance.

Not familiar with JSP neither.

The content within the database will consist of around 40million "words".

So it will be quite a large database.

Thanks.
