form info on back button

Hello,
I have a form which the user fills up, and hits the submit button. The submit runs a servlelet on the web server ,and a subsequent page is returned.

When the user clicks on the back button , the previous form is again presented. In Netscape , the data initially entered by the user is retained, which is the desired behaviour.
In internet explorer on clicking on the back button, the form is presented again but without the data the user had initialyy eneterd.
What can be done so that IE also behaves like Netscape in this regard .. i.e. user entered data on the form is retained when user clicks on back button.

@Phil_KarrasOct 13.2003 — This is a real good question, I only wish I had a real good answer. I've seen this behavior on both IE & NS browsers so I'm not sure why one works the way we want it to and the other does not. I'd first suggest you check IE settings to see if anything makes sense for that behavior.

In one case I went so far as building everything in Perl (or PHP) and the "back" button was my own button on the page which then supplied all the needed info back to the form. A real pain but it works on all JavaScript enabled browsers.
