External Stylesheet in Frame

I have a very sneaky and annoying problem: when I use an external stylesheet, it sometimes fails to load and none of the style is applied to the page.
Usually this happens in a page that is within a frameset.

The error does not happen steadily, sometimes the stylesheet loads fine.

I have experienced the error using IE 6.0.2 – I am not sure if it occurs with other software.

The only frame in which the error ever occurs is the one on the right hand side. If you try it enough times, you might suddenly find that the background color is not black but white (only on the right side, away from the graphics). This is because the stylesheet has not been applied.

I am in dire need of assistance with this elusive bug! I would dearly appreciate ANY help!

@StefanJan 07.2003 — I tried refresing the page about 30 times in mozilla, and I didn't get the problem you are talikng about.

However there are some errors on your pages, mayby they mess it up for IE sometimes?

Eg your frameset page has this doctype

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

which is incorrect on a framepage. You are looking for eg

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/frameset.dtd">

And check for errors on your pages at http://validator.w3.org

@Rick_BullJan 07.2003 — I've had that problem in Moz, Opera and IE before, but I don't think there is anything you can do about it - it's most likely a server error. The best thing to do is put all of your style in one style sheet then if it doesn't load it will just use the default view and your page will still be readable. Apart from that I don't think you can do much about it ?

Steve: I've changed the DOCTYPE thing, let's see if it improves the situation.

Rick: Really, on MOZ and Opera too? I was thinking it was most likely an IE6 bug. I think it isn't a server bug, because I have a project running the html without a server, and the same error pops up.

More ideas, anyone?
