Question about trademarks within content of a website?

The lawyer for the private company I work for said that we have to have Register Marks on every single instance of our company name within the entire content of our website. Now that’s probably around 1000 instances, and even worse, most of those are in a database. Is this necessary because I don’t see any major companies doing this?

@ray326Sep 05.2008 — IANAL but I believe you can satisfy that requirement with a single statement listing all your trademarks and indicating ownership and type of mark. Of course the first question that has to be answered from the business rather than the legal or technical view is, "is it worth it?" Are you spending money protecting something that no one cares to steal? Many legal questions are analogous to security questions in that regard.
