OnSubmit Help…its urgent.

hi everyone…i’m garima..im a beginner in this java field…m trying to make a Login page..which i need to validate.
i want to validat that if either of the username or password is empty an alert box appears and the form gets cleared.
i do get an alert box but on clicking ok the form gets submitted and the next welcome page appears..please if anyone can help me..i’ll be really very thankful..
