External URL Preview

I’ve seen it on ask.com, where the binoculars show a preview of the website. I’m looking for a similar script which looks to be created in CSS + JavaScript.

Has anyone tried to show a thumbnail of an external site with CSS + JS.

I suppose I’m looking to have my <img src=”www.somesite.com”> How do I do this?

have you seen anything with static previews that would work with php + mysql?

the setup is like this:

mysql holds the url's

php displays them

so,

let's say a user clicks on a links page. i'd like to store those links (fields: url, name, image) in msql, generate the thumbnails via php, but somehow automatically "pull" a screenshot of the linked website.

easy right ?
