flash combined with html for SEO?

hi guys,

I am wondering how I can best make a flash website which either loads, or links to HTML text content to best achieve those web crawlers/spiders to find that content.
Basicall I will have a starting page to enter the site.. this I’ve done in flash but could make it html. when you hit “enter” a quick animation starts which then opens 5 menu pictures which are all buttons with rollover submenues..
from then on you can get to the products and contact pages, etc…

What I am wondering is how i can best link to the content… if the products button opens another page which is html based, then if you hit return the into animation would start.. that could be solved of course.. but the easiest solution is if a window opened ontop of the menu which loads the html content into it, which i think would be done with an XML file.. however then that content would still not be visible to google right?

Please let me know. ohh and I do have to stick with the Flash on this one- so pure html is not an option…

looking forward for some great advice on this!

Flash tries several ways to be SEO friendly, however as a general rule, it's lightyears away from truly being that. For the most part, as a result, it's a rule to not ever use Flash as the only content on a page if you need that page to have a full chance at high ranking at the search engines.

The only exception to that rule is if you have so many high quality back links coming from other web sites, and the rest of your site is so solid in their own ranking. These factors can overcome some of the Flash issues.

You'd still need a properly set up and keyword phrase seeded page title, meta description (and for Yahoo Meta Keywords field), and your Flash file would have to have that same seeding properly implemented within it as well.

Even still, unless you can expend countless hours getting all that high quality back linking and all the rest, it's really not a wise idea to have Flash be the only or primary content on such a page. Having said that, if you absolutely must have Flash be primary content, then at the very least, you should have HTML content below that where you can then properly apply SEO rules, including providing HTML based links to the other pages on the site.

If you don't some search engine bots will NOT be able to get to your site's sub-pages, and you seriously hamper Google from properly ranking your site as well.

@mauriceamadeusauthorJun 02.2008 — hmm, ok

well, the design definitely needs to be done in Flash, because of animations, etc. However, what I was wondering- If I make the manu in flash, what if the page links to an html page which has a background pic with the same style as the menu page, and html text on top..

Underneath the .swf I would also add html buttons which link to the same pages as the flash menu buttons as well as legal notice.etc..

what I would prefere is for the flash menu buttons to open it's content in flash itself... this way I could add an animation, such as lines sliding appart to create the window in which the content loads...i was hoping the content itself could then be loaded via an xml file..

Basically I would really like to find out what means are avilable to make the text in my flash site be found in SEOs...

Success!
