Webdeveloper.com posts are ranked higher!

Webdeveloper.com’s forum posts rank higher on Google search results than my actual site.

Help!! I don’t want people interested in my site being directed to these forums about functionality instead of the actual site.

Thanks,

Cheers.

PS I love this community.

@WebJoelMay 18.2008 — That is why we have requested and stress the point repeatedly that people NOT post their contact information or URLs to the forum. If you post it, it becomes property of the forum and it will be indexed. Due to the popularity of this site and all the relevant linking, yes, your searchable url WILL show up quite high on Google.

You can feign the URL like www(dot)example(dot)com for instance if it assists a respondee to visit your site and help with whatever problems you're having.

This "(dot)" is a bit better than using " . " and "http://" will just about guarantee that the vB output will be that of a link, even if the address is incorrect.

@yamaharussMay 19.2008 — I wouldn't complain. Reciprocal links are great for ranking. You may want to look at your code and content to see what improvements can be made.

@Collegekid19authorMay 19.2008 — Thanks Joel,

It wasn't complaining as much as I am just concerned that if people are directed to these forumns they will question the legitmacy of the site.

Thanks again though.

@Compguy_PeteMay 20.2008 — Well has this link also helped with your search inbound traffic in general?

Also if you want to rank higher then use those keywords abit more skillfully on your pages than you currently are... it shouldn't be so hard.

@SEO_guruMay 24.2008 — Compguy Pete is right. I always include my blog information in my forum writing, because getting links back from a major, authoritative site are vital to the overall SEO strategy.

But it does come down to how well you've done your work on your own site! Rather than lose the value of links from webdeveloper.com, focus on increasing the optimization on your site.

With enough time and leverage, for your specific and unique keyword phrases, you'll be on top of the world!

@felgallMay 24.2008 — References to your site from established sites will always rank higher than your site to start with but as your site becomes more established it will overtake those other pages.
