I’ve seen this crap before…

I received an e-mail from one of my clients… with an e-mail he received offering SEO help. I have seen this SCAM before… these people have bogus sites crammed with ‘backlinks’ that DO generate alot of ‘hits’ to your site (provided you pay them the $$ they request), but the analytics are that they are ‘redirects’ to your site, and that they didn’t intend to land there so they spend on average ‘less than one minute” on your site!
-Don’t be fooled, -this is probably a scam. The fact that the site built is now #2 on page #2 of Google for the SEARCH terms used, is a testiment that the site is gaining ranking, legitimate ranking. -Where were these people a year ago when the site was on page 36 or page 50-maybe? -We weren’t a contender and not a good ‘candidate’ to be fleeced….

SEO: beware. Could this be legitmate? Yes, –it could be… but seriously I doubt it!

Hello,

>

I was looking at websites under the keyword XXX XXX XXX XXX XXX and came across your site http:XXXXX(dot)XXX. I see that you’re ranked 2 on page 2.

>
>

I’m not sure if you’re aware of why you’re ranked this low but more importantly how easily correctable this is.

>
>

There’s no reason you can’t have a top three ranking for this keyword based on your site structure and content. You have a very nice site.

>
>

You need significantly more one way anchor text backlinks. If you’re interested I can help you with this…

>
>

I’m talking about getting you ranked for ALL your keywords. Adding new backlinks on a steady and consistent basis from high PR quality websites is what produces the rankings you are looking for.

>
>

The right kind of links are very critical in getting top ranking….and I can hand deliver these quality links to you.

>
>

My partners and I own 1000’s of websites and offer private linking to hundreds of website owners just like yourself.

>
>

I didn’t send this email out to thousands of people but I am currently reaching out to a list of your ‘keyword competitors’ as well. But you’re my favorite and you are the one I really favor and the one I see can monetize the targeted website traffic this can deliver.

>
>

I have a very simple way to prove that what I do works and it’s risk free for you to try. Nothing beats seeing the results with your own eyes.

>
>

Is it ok if I give you a call? I would love to pursue this further over the phone with you or should I go somewhere else?

Sincerely,

Okay, -I’m being stroked here folks… but they’re not gonna punk me!

But I might punk HIM (no, –I won’t) if I can find his postal addy… punk ‘im, with “popcorn”! -You know those “You can study at home to be a (fill in the blank/check the box next to the title)” postage-paid just drop it in the mailbox and we’ll deliver the details straight to your door things you get in TV GUIDE, GH and READER’S DIGEST a~la Sally Struthers TV adverts? A.K.A. “popcorn”. -If I get this person’s postal mail address, -he’s gonna get 100s of pamplets and work-at-home course offers courtesy of his favorite and most-favored bestest buddy…. me! Yeah baby… Like the AC/DC song, –dirty deeds done dirt-cheap!

@Compguy_PeteMay 14.2008 — Wow that's a crafty peice of work!

I haven't seen this POS email scam yet, but I regularly get emails for clients sites who have closed and are no longer operating... How odd is that.

I have instructed all of my clients about spam, and some of my clients that I've had "the (spam) Talk" with to forward me a copy of any email that look like this and we would talk about the offer and if we think it's real or not.

Also another thing I bring up is "are you going to buy your perscription drugs via an email? (well no) so why would you consider a random email offering this type of service."

@WebJoelauthorMay 14.2008 — And crank up the angst just a leeeeeetle bit more with the parting line:
Is it ok if I give you a call? I would love to pursue this further over the phone with you or should I go somewhere else?
puh-LEAZE! Legit offers NEVER suggest '...go somewhere else' because you know why?...

Don't be fooled by this type of hype.

We need to raise awares of this type of scam. It is just a fleecing of the webmaster and his / his client's money.

@SEO_guruMay 24.2008 — OMG hahahaha

It never ceases to crack me up at how completely fraudulent this kind of stuff is, yet how many clients I have who contact me saying - is this a good deal?

Thank God they ask me - well, at least some of my clients do!

hahahha You're my favorite...

@WebJoelauthorJun 01.2008 — You're my favorite...
-holds a special meaning for me... Years ago we had a big family get-together, my two nephews, -the first son of my older brother (maybe 5 years old at the time), and the son of my younger sister (maybe 4-yrs old at the time), were enjoying the swingset in my parent's backyard. I was pushing them in this 'swing' like seat-thing as they conversed in 'kid stuff', they were cautiously sizing each other up, asking questions about likes, dislikes, etc.

'Kyle' asked "Doran' "Do you like McDonald's (Restaurant, hamburgers, etc)" and 'Doran' nodded emphatically and burst out with "Uh-HUH!" and immediately, 'Kyle' reached over and stuck his index finger in 'Doran's' chest and proclaimed "YOU'RE MY FAVORITE!" -An immediate friendship had just been forged, folks! Their mutual adoration of McDonald's fries, burgers etc., made them each others' 'favorite'...

"You're my favorite!" has been a familial catchphrase in my family ever since... :p

@WebJoelauthorJun 06.2008 — Hey I FOUND what appears to be a series (I have seen hundreds of such pages... never quite knew what to make of them until recent years..) of those 'craftily designed' pages that, if you are dumb enough to throw your cash at these people, they will include you on thier page/s and you get "...thousands of Google hits each month..." (since you are soooo 'favored' by them...). I even believe that there is a referrer involved here...

www(dot)eva09(dot)007sites(dot)com/nationale7/small-digital-scale(dot)html

I might be incorrect in this assumption, but LOOK at the pages... this is CRAP. It is indexable text, meaningless, with genuine links scattered therein!! Each of these people probably paid $30 or $40 for this privledge...

DON'T BE FOOLED! :o

@JPnycJun 06.2008 — General rule of thumb, if any company offering any service seeks YOU out, ignore them. If they were any good they wouldn't need to canvass to bring in new clients.
