HI,
I wanted to know if the Google Web Toolkit is good for developing in AJAX. I will be finishing basics of Java shortly and would like to use GWT because i don’t know much about JavaScript & xHTML but a lil bit about CSS HTML and PHP

However I have some questions …
Do these AJAX frameworks require some special web-hosting. Will they compatible with my free web-hosts with run-of-the-mill LAMP servers?

Is it better (or easier to learn ) to do AJAX yourself or use such frameworks?

thanks

@ray326May 04.2008 — It seems too heavy weight to me. Look at what Yahoo has done with its AJAX and DHTML libraries.

@pratik_learnerauthorMay 04.2008 — ok but what do u mean by heavyweight.. didn't know about the Yahoo! User Interface Library though...

it would be nice if i could code my web app in java and have it in HTML/Javascript

checked out more about GWT, found out that they mean pure HTML/Javascript but i don't know what would the server-side requirements be...

seems like YUI is based on Javascript... looks nice though...

@ray326May 04.2008 — I don't want to code in Java and have it translated into something else. I think most people don't and that was the conclusion of some AJAX toolkit reviews.

There shouldn't be special requirements on the server for any of this client side stuff (other than storing the JS and CSS).
