Ideally Open Source.

Thanks.

@TJ111Apr 17.2008 — By image manager, do you mean a gallery, a CMS to manage/display/share photos, a library to edit/serve images, or what? Be a little more specific.

@OM2authorApr 17.2008 — erm... i just need to be able to upload images online and edit them.

not sure where that falls into...?

@TJ111Apr 18.2008 — I'm not sure if theres an open source image uploading/editting library around or not. There's plenty for uploading/managing, etc. I would start by looking at Image Gallery CMS's at http://opensourcecms.com to see if one would fit your needs. The best PHP based image editor I could find was this: http://ajaxian.com/archives/open-source-php-based-ajax-image-editor .

@OM2authorApr 18.2008 — hmmm... thats odd: i kinda assumed they would be all over the place. ?

the best one i have is from: http://www.saulmade.nl/FCKeditor/FCKPlugins.php

i use it with fckeditor.

but: i really really would like to have a standalone. ?

i dont want to delve into decoding the one from above and trying to make it work on its own.

the guys that made this one adapted another one available from sourceforge.

has anyone used the tinymce one?

they charge for it - but it might be the easiest solution fo rme.

thanks.

@hastxApr 18.2008 — I am in process of developing a simplistic photo editor that integrates scriptaculous with GD library and allows you very basic editing functions like crop, resize, border, drop shadow.

It's very minimal, and still in process, but is this what you are thinking about for upload & edit functions?

There are several issues with the app: one being that there is no "back" or "undo" options. When editing images, the cache builds up very fast and so after every successful edit, the previous version is deleted to keep from having too much space taken up on the server. So if you make a mistake you have to start again.

@TJ111May 09.2008 — Yeah, I'm very impressed with Aviary. It's great to be able to do some pretty advanced image editing on-the-go, and just grab them when I get back to home/work. Not as feature-rich as Photoshop or the Gimp, but pretty damn impressive for an online image editor.
