Explode help – simple one hopefully!?

Hi Guys,

I have a piece of php code which helps me get the URL of a mod-rewrited URL:

[code=php]
$uri = @array_shift( explode ( ‘?’, $_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’] ) );
var_dump( $uri );
[/code]

Now it works great, but it is printed/echoed out to the screen. How can I change it so it stays the same, but just holds the information in the $uri variable?
