CMS suggestions for a simple jewlers’ site??

So, my client owns an elegant, small local business, but wants to start attacking the e-commerce world. They want a website that has one or more gallery sections. They frequently have new jewelry that they would like to be able to update themselves, as well as captions/prices. Most of the rest of the site doesn’t need to be CMS based.

So what do I do? I am thoroughly based in HTML and CSS, but not PHP or Javascript. I can somewhat struggle through them, but I haven’t learned them yet. Do I employ the use of a CMS system and train them how to use it? It seems that most CMS systems are geared toward large businesses with a ton of content, so all the templates I’ve seen are too corporate for my tastes. Is there another way I can do this? It would be neat to use and modify WordPress to do the job, but I get caught up and confused during the modification process.

I just want to get an understanding of my options, and what the best method would be. Suggestions?
Thanks!

@stephan_gerlachMar 30.2008 — I would definitely deploy a CMS system. I would suggest Joomla. One of the reasons why I would do it is because it will save you loads of work.

@andrew_70authorMar 30.2008 — Joomla? I have it installed on my localhost, and was playing with it. But what's the learning curve like? And how hard is it to create my own template, modify css, etc? Thanks!
