HTML vs Text Email

Hi, upon people signing up to my website, my plan is to send them an HTML email. What would happen if the user can’t receive/read HTML emails?

@hastxMar 26.2008 — "multipart/alternative" email types send html and text messages ...but the end viewer only sees one version (based on either his mail client defaults or server settings/capabilites) . The multipart/[B]alternative[/B] means that the message contains alternative display options.
