Alright, so i have been having quite a few problems with PHP! I want to start working on it on my Microsoft computer, but it just doesnt seem to be working. Is there any guarenteed download that makes my computer abled to show php pages?

i know i could do without, but it would make things so much easier to manage.

Thank You very much for helping me out with this very confusing topic of php!

@skywalker2208Mar 12.2008 — PHP files need to be run on a server so google WAMP or XAMP and those should help you to run php files on your computer.

@AltriakMar 12.2008 — Just as an add-on to previous poster, WAMP is for windows. ? It includes Apache, Mysql, and PHP, so I would uninstall your version of PHP if you're going to use that.

If you don't want the whole package you can try to find apache and install it on your own. It requires some configuration, however, so getting WAMP/XAMP may be easier

@tracknutMar 12.2008 — Alternatively you can debug your php code on the actual web server that the site will be on. Presumably it already has PHP installed.

@youngdesignerauthorMar 13.2008 — Alright, so i downloaded xampp and didn't do much to the program except run it. However, the program really didn't work. Do i need internet access to run it?

@youngdesignerauthorMar 13.2008 — This is an add on. I tried opening a php file through internet explorer and it did not want to open correctly, it kept closing and going through the same process. Then i tried opening it through my Website software PHP Designer (which you would think would be able to show php files) but that does not show it either.

Like i said before, did i do something wrong in setup, or is there a process that i need to accomplish in order to get hp access. Do i need internet access to do this?

Thanks for you help!

@bokehMar 13.2008 — You do not call php files directly with Internet Explorer. Fire up XAMPP and then type: http://localhost/ into your browser. You should see a page about XAMPP.

To run a php file put it in the htdocs directory and call it like this: http://localhost/filename.php

@bokehMar 13.2008 — is that really what i am suppose to do???[/QUOTE]Yes it really is!

You want IE/Firefox to be supplied with the script output (after being parsed) not the script itself.

If the url bar says file:// instead of http:// you are doing it wrong.

@youngdesignerauthorMar 13.2008 — so, just to clarify, put the documents (php, html, css, whatever) into that folder and then just do http://localhost/whatever.php(html) and it should be able to work?

@bokehMar 13.2008 — Try it!
