CSS not showing in Explorer

I created a very simple website but for some reason people using Explorer are unable to see the background color, images, anything thats css. On my Explorer it shows as well as Firefox. Any ideas?

Here’s the code:

[CODE]
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN”>
<HTML>

<HEAD>
<title>Judge Mendiguren</title>
<meta name=”description” content=””>
<meta name=”keywords” content=””>
<meta http-equiv=”Content-Type” content=”text/html; charset=iso-8859-1″>

<style type=”text/css”>
<!–
body,td,th {
color: #333333;
}
body {
background-color: #CCCCCC;
background-image: url(images/motif-wallpaper-1-web4.gif);
}
.style3 {
font-size: 14px;
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
}
.style6 {
font-size: 16px;
font-weight: bold;
}
.style8 {font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif}
.style9 {font-weight: bold; font-size: 24px; color: #CC0000;}
.style14 {color: #666666}
a:link {
color: #5B74B5;
}
a:visited {
color: #5B74B5;
}
a:hover {
color: #0099FF;
}
a:active {
color: #5B74B5;
}
.style13 {
font-size: 10px;
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
}
.style15 {

font-size: 10px;
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
}
.style16 {font-size: 12px; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; }

@stalebrewMar 06.2008 — Got a URL?

@WebJoelMar 06.2008 — By itself, just the CSS is not really going to help. We'd need the HTML too (post the entire code, or URL to it if hosted). ?

@deepskyauthorMar 06.2008 — Thank you. I deleted alot of the text content to shorten the code.

@WebJoelMar 07.2008 — I notice that you have not only background-colors stated in CSS, but but bgcolor stated in the HTML. Last-stated is precident and over-ruling so here, the "<style></style>" is not being shown as it is being over-ruled.

As for:<img src="images/[B]gavel and scales[/B].jpg" width="260" height="173" border="1">[/QUOTE] -might be okay by my HTML-editor refuses to show image so-named. "whitespaces" in image names isn't a good idea. Either close-up the name, use hyphen or underscores.

Other than that, -is the site hosted somewhere? Absolute-path URL to actual images would be helpful.

[U]<span class="style8"><span class="style9">[/U]<img src="images/[COLOR="Red"]reelect judge mendiguren[/COLOR].jpg" width="518" height="40">[U]</span></span>[/U][/QUOTE] [U]This part[/U] is gibberish... and again, -note the [I][COLOR="Red"]whitespace in name[/COLOR][/I] problem again.

You're applying the classes "style8" and "style9" to an empty element that contains an image (with an invalid name??)... None of these styles (style8 and style9) are going to have any effect whatsoever upon the "img", which is the only 'content' of the double-nested SPANs..

This is all fixable ? and it's not too far off really.

@deepskyauthorMar 07.2008 — Thank you for those notes. I did those corrections but the background images are still not showing in explorer.
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@stalebrewMar 07.2008 — I just checked and It seems to be working in IE6 IE7 and Firefox. ??
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@CentauriMar 07.2008 — Will need to see this site hosted online somewhere - as we don't have the images, we cannot tell if they are showing if we test locally.
