I’m a web designer with experience using hmtl, javascript and flash. I’m definitely not a really good programmer. What I’m looking to do is create an intranet on the back of an existing web site.

Basically what I need to do is create a password-protected area that has a calendar area where, as a group, we can post company related events/seminars and another area where individual clients information can be set up and updated on a day-to-day basis. Something like a virtual filing system.

I’m wondering if anyone knows of a reliable web site where I can get some open source code that can help me create these things.

@paulkoanFeb 14.2008 — What you need is a Content Management System.

The previous poster has provided a link to a site that will give you all the options you could hope for in open source CMS.

I would recommend focusing on Joomla (http://joomla.org) and Drupal (http://drupal.org) as these are arguably the leaders out there, and as such you will find the best community support.

@aheittmanFeb 19.2008 — If you are not required to host this in-house, you might want to check out some of the 37Signals ( http://www.37signals.com/ ) products - Highrise & Backpack would probably fit your CRM & calendar needs. Also take a look at Google Apps ( http://www.google.com/apps/business/index.html ), as it offers (in addition to email) shared calendars & docs.
