legality

hi! i want to know if is it legal to use other websites server-side processes on my own website? for example, website A got a server-side process called get_logged_users. php, then i want to call that process (to whatever reason) from my own website, then afterwards i would like to display the output on my front-end. are there any legality issues to that?

@TheRaveFeb 13.2008 — You would have to get both the author's permission and the website owner's permission. Technically it would be illegal to be using their script without their permission as well as using their website's bandwidth without the owner's permission.

Unless the code is open source then you just need to check with the person who owns the website.

I think a more important issue would be security both for you and the author of the script you're using. If its remotely stored then the author could change his script and make it harvest any details from your script thats including it and visa-versa.

Is there any reason why you're wanting to do this? Why can't you host/run the/a script on your server to do the job?

If you cannot or will not get permission from any copyright holders of the material you wish to use and still feel you need access to it, then the only thing that will give you [i]some[/i] protection is to retain the services of a lawyer who specializes in the area of intellectual property and copyrights to advise you on what is permissible.
