I am new to web developing field.

Can anyone tell me the exact procedure of making a forum site. I think its php based site.!

So please favour for me to tell all the necessary knowledge regarding development of php based site.!

And what is vBulletin? Is it “just helpful” or “play main role” in developing such site?

@TheRaveFeb 12.2008 — Developing your own forum software can be very challenging even for more experienced php developers. For a novice I would say its near impossible.

Instead of developing your own you could just install one of the many pre-made php based forum software. There are many different forum software out there, of which vBulletin is one. There are also a number of completely free pieces of forum software, such as phpBB and SMF.

If you use these pre-made software they will not only "play a main role" but they will [i]be[/i]your forum. All you will have to do is upload them to your hosting and install, then you're away.

- Find a host.

- Download a package (e.g. SMF) from their website.

- Upload the package onto your hosting.

- Run the installation for the package.

- Then you're done.

You need:

- Money to pay for a domain name and hosting.

- A domain name (e.g. www.example.com) to point at the hosting. Most hosting providers have domain name registration facilities.

- A web host that has support for php/mysql (or asp depending on the package).

- A method for uploading the files to the host. Some kind of FTP client (e.g. Filezilla).

How to select a domain name:

Its really up to you. It can be anything you want as long as its not taken. My suggestion is to go for something that is related to the subject/topic of your site and is easy to remember.

You seem to be struggling with some very basic concepts. If you want, for a small fee, I can set up a forum website that you want.
