setInterval and mouse coordinates problem

Hi,

I am trying to get a list of items on the bottom of a page to move if the mouse is located in a certain section of the browser.

I want to have a setInterval function that is continuously running in the background but that will not do anything until the mouse is in the right position. However, since you can’t use Events with functions I cannot get the mouse coordinates through the function that is being called with setInterval. Is there a way to do this?
