page-break printing oddities

Hi all,

I have a setup that prints a header, page content, and a footer, all within a div that has page-break-after: always attached to it.

Naturally the screen display doesn’t look right, but printing works great from my PC browsers for the most part. But two weird problems are happening:

First, in FF 2.0.12 on Mac (and sometimes on PC?), it prints an extra blank page between pages. Looking at the code, there is nothing between the divs whatsover.

Second, in Safari 3.0.4, the page-break occurs *before* the footer, and the footer gets mangled up with the header on the next page.

Anyone have experience with this and have some insights?

@trouveresauthorJul 16.2008 — FYI we abandoned the CSS way of doing this and went instead to generating PDFs. I have not tried the CSS code in FF3, so it may or may not have been fixed.

@WebJoelJul 16.2008 — Are you using a set of CSS for media="print", or just relying upon the media="screen" or media="all"?

For "printing", you want to create a set of rules to that media, such as whether or not to page-break after a header, etc. etc...

Google [B]media="print"[/B] for more topics, like:

@trouveresauthorJul 16.2008 — I was using a specific set for print. It worked in FF, but not in Safari, so I just assumed it was a browser issue. PDF actually worked better for us anyway, cuz it opened up a few new opportunities.
