IE plugin development / certification

Hi Webdevelopers,

can anyone help me with info how get a certificate for an IE plugin, so people will know it’s ok to download and install it (active x plugin). Any experiences on how to get this done the easiest and cheapest way would be much appreciated.

(like a flash plugin for example)

Thanks in advance for your kind help!

Bruno

@RibeyedSep 19.2003 — hi,

Ok i have no real experience on this but i would like to share my thoughts on how i would approach this.

Ok looking at some of the main ones you have, Flash you have mentioned, of course Java, Quicktime and say RealPlayer.

Now they are all plugins from big companies, which obviously you are not. Your plugin would need to have a function that is not a alternative to one of these companies and serve a real purpose. Im going to assume that it is of the highest quality and that everyone surfing the Net would find a need to install this.

Now if you want to go all the way with it as your own then your path would be different from if you want just to sell it to a company. Selling it to a company which is in partnership with Microsoft would be your best option. Saying that approaching one of these companies, show them what you have you would get a real evaluation in the quality of the plugin. I would say if that company didn't want to buy it then don't think Microsoft would either. If they make you an offer then say no, and take it a step further.

I would also be thinking about how i would generate a 'need' for the plugin.

Maybe you are a small company or wanting to start a company then maybe you don't want to show potential competitors your plugin, then i would be looking at how to get yourself a Microsoft partnership. Information about that i would think could be found on the Microsoft website.

Don't know if this will be any help to you what’s so ever.

good luck with it anyway. ?
