a volatile situation

i work for a bridal store on technology. in other words i fix printers, and resize images. Recently my boss fired our web developer because she was charging 25 bucks and hour and was taking way too long. so now here we are without anyone who can do dreamweaver (which is what our site is in atm) and my boss is looking to me for answers. i was wondering what you guys would suggest doing. im thinking more about learning to use a program for web editing that doesnt require html. something simple that will save my butt. thanks for your responses ?

hire a new web designer or start learning HTML.

sorry, that's pretty much your only options as far as I can tell...

And makes coffee for you and what else? You shouldn't be doing this. Hire a developer.

@astartes95authorJan 06.2008 — i should have known id get biased opinions on a website for web devs lol. hiring a new web dev is out of the question, however i know that there are several easy to use web buidling programs on the market and i was hoping for an opinion the best one. whatever i'll take my questions elsewhere.

@ScriptageJan 06.2008 — Hi,

Sorry about the rather pithy comment you received before. Could you provide a link to your website?

If all you need to do is update the content then something like Frontpage would be fine.

http://www.adobe.com/support/dreamweaver/tutorial_index.html has a cornucopia of tutorials that you could work through.

http://www.thefreecountry.com/webmaster/htmleditors.shtml has a list of WYSIWYG HTML editors, I'm sure one of these would do the trick for you.

Kind regards

Carl

@Major_PayneJan 06.2008 — NVU might be simpler for you to start with. This is only for a Designer starting out. If you need a Web Developer, then you are going to have to get familiar quickly with a lot of languages that your site uses. Especially if it runs a database and uses Perl or PHP. Big difference between a web designer and a web developer although some of each overlap.

@ray326Jan 06.2008 — The easiest thing to do would be to start learning Dreamweaver. Of course you'll have to get your boss to buy you a copy if the previous developer had her own.

@astartes95authorJan 07.2008 — thank you for the educated response. the website is www.bayareabirdal.net

what i really need is to be able to update and add pictures and descriptions to the already present gallery pages.

any more feedback would be greatly appreciated. ?

@ScriptageJan 07.2008 — If that is all you need to do then you could even use Microsoft Word. Try opening a gallery page in Word and see how easy it is to edit.

Kind Regards

@Major_PayneJan 07.2008 — Please do not use any of M$ tools to edit web pages. You'll regret later. Also, clicking your link resulted in: irefox can't find the server at www.bayareabirdal.net. Think it's meant to be: www.bayareabridal.net. Personally, I think the pages would be very easy to maintain as they look standard and nothing out of the ordinary seems to be used. At $25/hr that was gravy. Can I have the job? ?
