front-end, back-end

i don’t know where to post this thread, i guess is more appropiate on General.

on past days i have seen job opportunities for web developer in which detail what they’re looking for and the developer responsabilities. however, they mention about front-end task.

my doubt is, which task are delegated for front-end and back-end? can a professional web developer list them for me? please…

any comment is welcome,
thanks

@ray326Dec 29.2007 — Usually "front end" means client (browser) development; HTML, CSS, Javascript.

"Back end" tends to mean server development; PHP, Java, Perl, ASP, database, maybe authentication.

If you think in model-view-controller terms then "front end" is the view and "back end" is the rest.

The other slant these terms could take would be process oriented in which case the "front end" is requirements gathering, estimating, architecture where "back end" is development and deployment.
