Trying to center a page, and throw a flash object over it…

I’m attempting to make a website for myself, and the home page will be an image I created, that I’d like to have centered, both vertically, and horizontally, if possible. I’m also wanting to put a flash slideshow over the image, at an exact location. How can I go about doing this? I have the image saved, and the slideshow, but can’t seem to figure out how to code it, to where the page will stay perfectly centered, and always have the flash slideshow where it needs to be on the page, over the main image, which has my links and whatnot on it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help, and happy holidays!

@Major_PayneDec 26.2007 — Got plenty of ideas, but I don't understand why you don't want your home page ranked with any of the search engines.

@mhogan35authorDec 26.2007 — Like what? And, also, why wouldn't it be? Because of the lack of text? Would there be any way around that, while still being able to use my images for the website?

@mhogan35authorDec 26.2007 — And, as a side note, I'd still like to know how to do what I originally asked, if that's ok, since I can always throw some text in there hidden somewhere in the background for search engines and whatnot (the centering image horizontally, vertically, and having a flash slideshow perfectly over the image, where I want it)

@Major_PayneDec 26.2007 — Any chance you have the image and video online? Will try to throw a few ideas together.

@mhogan35authorDec 26.2007 — Sure thing! The site isn't up yet since it isn't yet finished, but I have the image, and show, at the following address:

Thanks in advance!

@Major_PayneDec 27.2007 — Hey. If that's your site, you don't need to make any changes. Very well done! Looks terrific in both Firefox and IE 7.0 as it is. Why on earth would you want to mess with this page? LOL

@mhogan35authorDec 27.2007 — I'm trying to get it to center, and not be aligned to the left, hehe... I'd also like it to not be top aligned too, and center vertically as well, and still have the flash section line up correctly. If this is possible, it'd be really neat to know! Thanks again for the help :-)

@Major_PayneDec 27.2007 — I'll take a closer look at it, but it looks perfect to me as far as centering. Could take a screen shot of the way I see it if you wanted.

@mhogan35authorDec 27.2007 — It looks ok on my resolution, but once you go widescreen, such as a newer monitor, or laptop, or whatnot, it's got a ton of black space on the right, and sometimes bottom, depending on the resolution, since the site is aligned "left top"

@Major_PayneDec 27.2007 — OK. I only have a 17-inch flat panel at 1024x768 res. Not sure how I will tell if it's that centered or not. You might try putting in the styling tag: background-position: center center; and see if that works for you on the larger monitors. Your bg image is 1030x650 pixels. may have to see if there's a way to stretch image as a bg so it fits any res.

@mhogan35authorDec 27.2007 — What about keeping the flash object, which right now is just a "layer" in photoshop, aligned with the image then, if it was to be centered?
Copy linkTweet thisAlerts:
@mhogan35authorDec 27.2007 — Your center code worked in IE, I forgot that I was still using the new beta of firefox, which might have been why it was showing up weird perhaps... How can I center a flash object vertically, and horizontally, and then tweak it a few pixels from it's center position, since it won't need to be totally centered, but off by a few pixels?

@mhogan35authorDec 27.2007 — ===============================

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out! hehe

nd, as a side note, it's being weird in Firefox right now, here's the link:

I found out how to center my background and flash object in IE (and it works in IE), but not in Firefox for the background and flash object, for some reason... Any ideas?

@Major_PayneDec 28.2007 — I can't get your SWF to load locally no matter what I do so hard to get it to center. Even called file from your server and I get a Failed Load each time.

Did get the styling set that should stretch your bg image regardless of screen size.
