check object’s url

I have an ajax site where I link in a few hundred myspace-band media players. It appends one player at a time so I can navigate them all in a little more than a minute.

The only problem with this is when a myspace account closes or the player is deleted. I get an awful error which typically freezes the browser, the player loads but the content doesn’t exist.

So, I’m thinking about revamping this particular site using PHP instead of JS (AJAX). I’d like to check the url to see if it’s broken, if so echo a message, if not load the player.

I’ve been searching this topic (here and elsewhere) and I found a few things but I was wondering what you guys thought.

This is what I’ve found:

@ZnupiDec 15.2007 — What exactly are you using Ajax for? What are you requesting with Ajax? can we have a link to your site?

@bustyaauthorDec 16.2007 — A couple of sites back (I'm working on something completely PHP now) I made a site that consists of one page and uses AJAX to include hundreds of chunks of HTML (such as a flash media player object) into the one page structure. I really tried to get the most out of CSS too, I'm overriding external CSS attributes as the content changes by AJAX-ing embedded CSS as well.

Its pretty sweet but can be much better with PHP and one way it could be better is by checking the mediaplayer link(s) so:

1: it doesn't include a deleted mediaplayer

  • 2. turns the link to append the mediaplayer into text so I know which players are deleted.

  • As for posting the link, man I've really avoided that on this site because I don't want to offend anyone here and chances are someone will get offended.

The site is for my hip-hop persona, which is a joke within itself, but the point of this persona is a satire of pop culture. A lot of folks don't get that, they take it at face value and get offended. I also do some socio-political pieces which might offend as well, but if you have the nerve...

    AND DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARNED YOU:

    Bustya's home (for now)

By the way, I'm using my biz site's .htaccess file to redirect you to the page because this forum's badword filter breaks the URL.

If it offends you, take comfort in that I'm really a nice guy and nothing like this character, but I am smartass with a dark sense of humor.

@bustyaauthorDec 16.2007 — I have one issue about this site that I'm sure someone is going to point out quickly, it's completely relying on JavaScript, yet another reason it needs to be redone in PHP.
