Has any tried to customize the skin for a YUI component? I have tried doing the steps in this link;

…with no luck. I also included the ‘yui-skin-sam’ in the parent tag. Help. Thanks.

I'm looking into the same thing.

Yahoo has this link which is a pretty thin description of what it takes to skin YUI components:

http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/articles/skinning/

What I've noticed is that nearly all classes refer to a file called sprite.png which contains all the graded images, bell icon, 'menu has children' indicator, etc. What seems tricky to me is the whole inheritance of styles and the cross-talk between different levels of CSS. Some kind of diagram would be extremely helpful.

You might want to try skinning the image while viewing your page in Firefox. Firefox has a plugin called Firebug which will tell you where any particular element is inheriting its CSS from. That allows you to more easily find the appropriate class definitions.
