Can I save overflow text?

My website displays large amounts of text sent by users. It must be broken up and placed into various defined areas on my page. This must be done dynamically so that whatever text cannot fit in the first area picks up in the second area where it left off, and so on.

Is this possible to do with CSS? Can the overflow property be used to save the remaining text? If not, does anyone have any ideas that does not involve counting characters?

@WebJoelNov 28.2007 — [I]gosh[/I] I saw something like that maybe a year or more ago... something about 'how newspaper text can '[I]overflow the column[/I]' and resumes '[I]on page 14[/I]', can be done in a [I]html web document[/I]'.. -you know, -how a newspaper starts a lead story and the column ends with "[I]-story continued on page 9...[/I]" appears at the bottom... :o But did I save that how-to article? -No! ? But maybe my description will help others understand (what I think is~) [I]the question[/I]...

@ray326Nov 28.2007 — You could try to do that on the server as the page is being generated (IF you're generating the page) but even there it's impossible to get it right. With straight HTML/CSS it just ain't gonna happen.
