Saving Forms into .txt files on server

What i am trying to do is have a section on my website that a person could possibly go to and “make changes” to my website, and they would be actually showcased on my webpage.

so in other words here is my question:
Take data from a text area in a form and save it as a .txt file in my folder on the server.

@ray326Nov 17.2007 — I'd say you've got a lot of details to think about like "how does the text file relate to a specific web page on the site?" How is that file to be incorporated into the desired page? How is the name of the text file determined?

@youngdesignerauthorNov 17.2007 — Let me give you the low down of what i am trying to accomplish. One of my school administrators has done this, but i wanted to get alternatives to doing it. On my webpage, i am trying to set up almost like a web-page edit, the only difference is that it only edits information within a certain section. This is going for my awards, so that it takes less of a hassle to update them, and i could potentially have someone else do it for me. I know its a difficult, long code, but i wanted some assistance.

how does the text file relate to a specific web page on the site?
What ever is saved on this text file will be displayed on the webpage itself. Im not sure if i want it edible or not, but i wanted it so that they use a web form, change what was there, and then it is displayed on the desired page.

How is that file to be incorporated into the desired page?
The version my school administrator used was SSI, and i am looking for something like that. It however, cannot be php, since my server doesnt support that.

How is the name of the text file determined?
I think the name would be predetermined because i only want one data at once. Or in other words, i only want this singe text file being displayed.

@ray326Nov 17.2007 — You have to have some kind of programming available on the server to do this. If not PHP then what do you have? Perl?

@youngdesignerauthorNov 17.2007 — I think i am able to use perl

@svidgenNov 17.2007 — There could potentially be a lot of security and performance concerns involved in doing something like this. I used to use a Perl implementation of a template system that might make this a little easier for you. But before we start spewing code at you, are you at all familiar with Perl? How much do you need to actually be shown?

@youngdesignerauthorNov 18.2007 — i am only familiar with the name, and not with it itself. Im not too concerned with security, because i already have something to protect it from spammers.

@svidgenNov 18.2007 — So, I hate to leave you hanging and whatnot. But it seems like you should either just find some free wiki software to install. Or you should find yourself a good Perl tutorial. If you find a wiki for which your server meets the requirements, you just have to deal with installing it. And honestly, if you just learn the basics of Perl (I recommend including regular expressions), this problem will have a trivial solution for you. And you'll be able to customize, secure, and update it in that case, which is probably ideal.
