CSS Drop Down Menu Problem in IE Only

I’ve created a menu, technically a drop up menu, which works fine on a Mac, but when I test on IE for PC the submenu doesn’t show outside the menu. I thought it was a simple matter of overflow:display, but that doesn’t seem to do it. I have all of these set to overflow to no avail: #footer, #footer #menu, #menu img, #menu ul, #menu li, #menu a, #menu table

I could really really use some help. I’m under a deadline and have tried building this several different ways. I must be overlooking something simple.

Here’s what I have:

@FangNov 16.2007 — This says it all  <!-- Put IE into quirks mode -->

@trymbillNov 16.2007 — I've got a similar problem. I've got a CSS Drop-Down menu on one of my sites and it's not working in IE (works fine in Firefox).

Here's the site: http://www.connected-women.com/

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but when Fang said something about Quirks mode in IE I jumped out of my chair ... I tried Google-ing it and couldn't really find anything useful except for some looong articles that go further then just talking about and explaining Quirks mode.

Can some one see why my drop-down menu is not working in IE? ?

@FangNov 16.2007 — Remove the first line<!-- and --><!-- and -->
That puts IE into Quirks mode. The first line in the document is always the DTD

@trymbillNov 16.2007 — In my case, IE is not in Quirks mode ...

... what does Quirks mode do? Can some one give me ideas on how to fix my problem?

@HutchskyauthorNov 16.2007 — I've removed the line about Quirks mode, but it doesn't fix the menu. All it does is break the layout so the footer scrolls instead of staying fixed. The line about Quirks mode come from the layout I'm using:

http://www.cssplay.co.uk/layouts/fixit.html

I'm not sure what the Quirks mode does either (I'm a Mac guy). I've read up on it a little. From what I gather it's the old way IE operates and handles the web page, whereas the new release of IE7 is using a different mode.

I hate IE. Very much.

@HutchskyauthorNov 17.2007 — I managed to fix my problem by completely rebuilding my menu. Originally it was based on a menu from CSSPlay.co.uk, but luckily I found this menu that works:

Trymbill, I'm not adept enough to diagnose your problem (still a newbie) but you might try what I did: find a similar menu, pop it into your site and test it, if it works then build your menu by adjusting it.

Nice one, thanks, I will ?

Congrats with your site, I like the idea!
