Basic Hit Counter on a onclick event

Hello,

I am a novice web designer looking for some JavaScript help. I have a small internal webpage that we host on our linux servers at our local branches. I need to create a hit tracker. I was hoping it could write to a log file. There is an onclick function that opens this page I am using. I was hoping that the tracker could be hidden, and all it has to do is count each time a user clicks on the image. It probably is so simple for some, but I just cant find an answer.

Does the linux server have to have php enabled? or can this all be done through java script?

Any help would be great!

@samliewOct 31.2007 — You will need PHP. JavaScript only processes client-side, and does not store the data in the server, or displays it to the next person.
